As the door of the next cell swung open, the girl huddled in the corner visibly trembled. She didn’t dare to look at the door and her head drooped wearily onto her lap.
Sonny approached, squatted down in front of her, and gently patted her arm.
“It’s me.”
“You’re the man in the other cell?”

She lifted her head in shock as she heard his familiar voice.
“How did you get into my cell?”

The girl’s face was stained with dirt, making it difficult to discern her features. She appeared terribly thin, as if she was malnourished and had endured prolonged abuse.

He reached out, rubbed her hair, and said in a weak, soft tone, “I’ve been released. I’m here to take you with me.”

Sonny nodded and took her hand.
“Yes, let’s go.”
In the corridor, the guard led the way, with Sonny supported by the girl trailing behind him.

Changing the subject, he inquired, “What’s your name? What are your parents’ names? Once we return to Cadiered, I’ll make sure to reunite you with your family.”
The girl didn’t respond but instead asked, “What’s your name, sir?”
“Sonny.”
